h3. BT Goldeneye T Business Awards @ Culloden
On Thursday I managed the audio visuals of the show on behalf of Barney and PHG. One projector, four plasmas showing in-house visual and corporate imagery. Dinger and I were in at 9AM to rig the room with the two previously mentioned HDV cameras, mixer and the projector. He and Pete Huey operated cameras for me and I directed from the large blue box.
Laura from Inferno did the graphics for the event, some really cool work; and a nice person to boot.
h3. Birthday Bash @ Ramada
On Saturday, Barney and I rigged the Ramada, again with PHG, for another two camera set up; this time for a big birthday party. Not quite your average either: Tony Christie and Bjorn Again were the main entertainment; the entire room (the Ramada’s Grand Ballroom) was re-carpetted in black, the walls draped in 12 foot black curtains and all the chairs and tables covered in black.
In at 8AM and more or less done by 10, only waiting around for other people to do other things before show-set time at 7. 8PM kick off, which was dinner time for the guests, Tim from PHG was almost going mad through boredom, and if I hadn’t fiddled the DVD Recorder into showing me some TV footage (Eurovision was on, so it was hardly a thriller) I may have gone the same way. Dinner took 2.5 hours to serve and get cleared. Followed by some speeches and ‘Fiddler Adam’ doing his country music thing.
The same Tenors and Divas joke as Thursday was played with Meredith (and the other two) carrying in the cake then messing up, then offering to sing happy birthday… blah; and then onto the main acts. Working in a room solely lit by the lighting guys, with very little white light made it very hard for the cameras to look not red, not purple, not green at any given point, then someone tripped over our VGA distribution amplifier behind the stage, throwing both projectors offline; but no complaints were offered. Good show.
h3. What shall I do with my life
In the past two months I’ve come to think that something AV might be more my line, or at least another feather for whichever bow it is I carry. I mean… string for my cap. You know what I meant.
The experience of working in Nottingham for the Ice Hockey Playoffs, camera at the Fashion Week, directing two corporate AV gigs and managing one, the potential of more to come… Making me think – do I have a real plan for what I want to do when I graduate, or should I be starting some serious planning…
